The Mission

PR MillbrookMillbrook Combined School in High Wycombe offers nursery and primary school education for children between the ages of two and eleven years. With a fine suite of buildings located in attractive and extensive grounds, Millbrook is committed to offering the very best educational facilities for their pupils.

The school has a proactive policy of fundraising in order to achieve its teaching objectives by promoting its facilities to local businesses and organisations for meetings and leisure activities. It had embarked on a 12-month programme to refurbish and upgrade its facilities across its site that were available for hire, and was putting increasing effort into their promotion of these resources to local clubs and individuals.

In particular, Millbrook was eager to obtain bookings for its swimming pool at times when it was not being used by pupils, offering local swimming clubs the chance to hire out the pool so that it would bring in a constant stream of revenue. The pool had been recently superbly refurbished and the school approached BBI Brandboost to promote this new attraction through public relations.

The Work

Our PR focus was entirely on gaining free editorial coverage in local media. We were determined not to go down the advertorial route, which would have taken much-needed revenue away from the client.

Well, it only took a single news release to gain immediate coverage without the need for any follow up with journalists. Our PR team’s knowledge of the client and their exceptional facilities paid dividends. We got the content just right and we were undoubtedly assisted by Millbrook Combined School’s excellent reputation in the community.

The Outcome

The story was published in full as a news item in the local press and enquiries skyrocketed almost immediately. The Millbrook pool was soon fully booked by swimming clubs for the times that the school is not using it, to the extent that there was no more space available in the weekly schedules.

The PR campaign was a resounding success and the client was extremely happy with the result.
